FOREWORD:

Human beings have an important obligation on awareness, preserving and improving the values their country and society own and to present these values for the service of the mankind. This obligation does not only belong to the restricted groups such as the government authorities or scientific and artistic environments.

With regards to Safranbolu, there is no doubt in its speechless value. The responsibility of the awareness, preservation, improvement and the presentation of the Safranbolu’s values to the mankind, belongs to all the people in our country.

The Safranbolu Manuscript Works Library proves considerable pieces of works which reveal
that centuries ago when press facilities had been primitive compared today, people wrote hundreds of books by hand on several subjects which took years.

Today it is observed that, people, who are coming from foreign countries to Safranbolu for a short visit are particularly examining this rich heritage and when they see an impressing scene they are immediately taking pen in hand and starting to write books about Safranbolu, as well as they are broadcasting the photograps they took at the internet back at home.

Being the people of this land and the grandchildren of the creators of this cultural heritage, we too have to be aware of these values we own and we have to work harder on its protection, improvement and presentation.

The fact has to be realized that, similar to many culturally and touristically rich areas in Turkey, Safranbolu too lacks the sufficient publication facilities required for its advertisement and presentation of the existing beauties.

This book draft, which includes information and images based on scientific sources, observations and researches about Safranbolu has been condensed and presented to you on electronic environment before it’s publication.

At the beginning of this publication, as usual, without making name discrimination we want to give our thanks to the people from Safranbolu who created this rich cultural heritage in Safranbolu, people who preserved, improved and brought it up to today, people who accomplished attracting attentions to the values possessed and made Safranbolu a world’s town.

A little contribution of this publication to the town, country and humanity culture will make us happy. May 2004, Ankara.
